Brilliant Futures Campaign

Campaign Case Statement

Since 1897, the University of Illinois College of Law has distinguished itself as one of the nation's finest law schools, featuring a world-class faculty, superb students, exemplary programs, and an environment of engaged teaching and cutting-edge research. Over the College's century-long history, a strong case can be made that no law degree in the nation has yielded its recipients a higher return on investment. To this day, the College's mission remains ambitious: to serve as a preeminent site for the study of law, legal institutions, and legal culture; to educate our students effectively and comprehensively in legal principles and skills; and to advance justice and the public good.

Unfortunately, the commitments we hold dear – recruiting and retaining world-class scholars, to training the nation's best and brightest future lawyers, sustaining cutting-edge programs, and to cultivating an environment of engaged teaching and research – are at risk. As state support for higher education has diminished (to less than 2% of the College’s discretionary operating budget), the tuition burden on students has increased dramatically  (to $38,567 for in-state students and $45,567 for out-of-state students).

We ask you now, at this critical juncture in the College’s history, to consider giving something back to an institution that has meant so much to you professionally. As the College enters the final months of its $50 million capital campaign, we respectfully request your support for the College’s faculty, students, programs, and learning and research environment.
