Vita

Professor Paulo Albuquerque is a former judge. He worked in criminal courts as well as civil courts during 14 years. He is currently a law professor at the Catholic University in Lisbon, Portugal. He has been a professor at the Illinois College of Law since 2006. Professor Albuquerque has been working for the Council of Europe and the European Union. Within the Council of Europe, he has worked as an expert in the third evaluation round of the GRECO (Group of States against corruption). He completed the evaluation of Belgium with a report co-authored by Professor Richard Ghevontian (University of Aix-Marseille, France), which was approved by the Plenary Assembly of the GRECO in May 2009. His evaluation work is now under way in Bulgaria. Within the European Union, he has worked in two different projects, one related to prison costs and reform and the other to victim support. Both projects are now finalized and the respective reports were presented to the European Commission.
