Dr. Charlotte Ku, the long-time Executive Director of The American Society of International Law (ASIL) and a former Professor at John Hopkins University and the University of Virginia, serves as the Assistant Dean for Graduate and International Programs and directs the College's Graduate and International Studies Program. Dean Ku joined ASIL in 1990 and served as Executive Vice President and Executive Director from 1994 to 2006, where she managed project proposals that led to more than $2 million in foundation support, completed a capital campaign and building renovation project, and developed strategies and long-range planning in outreach and legal education with the Society's elected leadership.
Dean Ku joined the College after serving as Acting Director at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge. She coordinates the College of Law's Graduate and International Studies Program, including the LL.M. degree program, she has spear-headed college-wide efforts to increase awareness of law as a global profession through the Global Fellows Initiative.
Dean Ku is proficient in Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghai dialect), and has a reading knowledge of Spanish and French.She has published more than 40 scholarly papers, and serves or has served on the Academic Council on the United Nations System, AALS Membership Review Committee, American Council of Learned Societies, Stichting Foundation for Hague Joint Conferences, International Judicial Academy, and International Studies Association. She serves or has served on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of International Law, Baltimore Studies in Nationalism and Internationalism, Global Governance, International Legal Materials, and International Studies Perspectives.
