Our Students
Bright, capable, energetic, interesting, and diverse might just begin to describe students at the College of Law. Their interests are numerous and their experiences vast. They are individuals chosen not only based on their LSAT scores and GPAs, but for what their interests and experiences bring to the College as a whole. Many students arrive with significant work experience or an advanced degree in another field. Other students take advantage of the world-class University of Illinois to pursue a dual degree.
More than 30 percent of this group are students of color—the top percentage among public universities in Illinois and in the Big Ten. Students come from more than 40 states, nearly 200 undergraduate institutions, and more than a dozen foreign countries.
Each student brings his or her own perspective to a legal issue and professors welcome the variety of viewpoints. Students can explain firsthand what it's like growing up in the inner city, the challenges of starting a business, living and working around the world, serving in the Armed Forces, and much more. And these life experiences greatly enrich classroom discussions.
This diversity supports many vibrant organizations. Black, Latino, and Asian law student associations. The Sports Law Society. The Federalist Society. The Sexual Orientation and Legal Issues Society. The International Law Society. Just to name a few.
Come visit and meet our students. You'll meet people who are remarkably like you and—perhaps more importantly—many who are not.
